The Philippines

Map
Description: Situated in the Pacific Ocean, the Philippines is comprised of more than 7000 tropical islands. With coastline in seas from Japan, the South China Sea, the Indian Ocean and the Celebes Sea, The Philippines is probably the most biologically diverse country in the world, even small islands are supporting greater biodiversity than the biologically richest countries in Europe! There are some accessible islands but most dive areas are more remote.

Season: There are three recognized seasons: "Tag-init" or "Tag-araw" (the hot season or summer from March to May), "Tag-ulan" (the rainy season from June to November), and "Tag-lamig" (the cold season from December to February).

Diving: The Philippines is a fantastic diving location providing remote dive sites for the slightly more adventurous. Whether it's reefs, wall dives, drift dives or wrecks you are after, then it's all here. What keeps many areas of the Philippines off the beaten track and less commercial are the challenges to be faced when navigating its many islands. Unfortunately, large tracts of coral are dead or deteriorating, due to years of dynamite and cyanide fishing (still now, it's not uncommon to hear far explosions while diving).
