![]() Type of dive: Reef, wreck, boulders Experience: Suitable for all levels Water temperature: 28-31°C Visibility: 5 to 25m Season: March to October Prices: Open Water Course 200 Euros Fundive 18 Euros ![]() Description: The Perhentian Islands (the two main islands are Perhentian Besar (big) and Perhentian Kecil (small)) are a small group of beautiful islands off the coast of northeastern Malaysia. The name "perhentian" means ”stopping point” in Malay as the islands were used by traders, merchants or fishermen to stop over for a rest or to shelter during a major storm. Both islands are uniformly covered in coastal tropical jungle and fringed by white sand beaches.
Diving: There are many dive shops on the Perhentian islands (see links below) so you can go around and choose the one you feel the most. Prices are pretty even between the shops and overall are one of the cheapest in Asia. Dive sites: All the dive sites are quickly and easily accessible by speed boat (5 to 25 min), so most of the dive operators are coming back to the shop after each dive. There are mostly reef dives but also an offshore pinnacle, a couple of wrecks and some boulder formations. Marine life includes turtles, sharks (blacktip, bamboo), humphead parrotfishes, jenkin's stingrays, lots of puffer and porcupinefishes, an occasional whaleshark and millions of others reef fishes. Favorites are "Tokong Laut", "Sugar Wreck", "Terumbu Tiga". |
